Salisbury Steak

This is the perfect meal for a cast iron skillet! If you don’t have one, I highly recommend getting one. They take meals to the next level. Of course you can still make this delicious meal without one, though I would suggest using a large skillet either way. Salisbury Steak is an easy 1 pan meal. Yay for less cleaning 🙂

Patty Ingredients- Serves 4, easily doubled

1 lb. Ground Beef

1/4 Cup Panko or Breadcrumbs

1 Egg

1 Tablespoon Tomato Paste- If you don’t have it just use tomato sauce or ketchup

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

Season with Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder

Gravy Ingredients:

1 Onion- Diced

1 Tablespoon Minced Garlic- I am a garlic loving fool so I probably add about 3 tablespoons, but if you aren’t a garlic loving fool like me 1 tablespoon will do 🙂

1 Tablespoon Butter

4 Oz. Mushrooms Sliced- That’s half a container of mushrooms. use more or less however you like it. You can also omit these all together but they add tons of flavor to the gravy.

3 Cups Beef Broth

1 1/2 Tablespoons Cornstarch or 2 1/2 Tablespoons of Flour

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

In a bowl, combine all of the patty ingredients. Once combined, separate into 4 or 5 equal sized patties.

Heat your skillet to medium high with oil. Add patties and cook on both sides until you see them nicely browned. You want to aim for a slight “crust” and be sure the patties are cooked throughout. Once patties are cooked, remove from skillet and drain. Turn the heat down to medium, add your butter, onions and mushrooms and cook until tender. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Next, add your cornstarch or flour and cook for 1 more minute. Pour in your beef broth and while it heats up scrape all of the little flavor bits crusted on the bottom of the pan. Once your broth starts to thicken, add your Worcestershire Sauce and patties back to the pan. Spoon gravy over patties and let cook in gravy for about 5 more minutes or until no longer pink. Serve with mashed potatoes!
